the class tee (again)

Happy Lunar New Year to everybody who celebrates it! May you have lots of pineapple tarts to eat and be healthy enough to come back to school on Wed (which is Cedric's birthday; yay Ced)!

Anyway before everyone conveniently forgets, I started two polls on the class tee. I figure it's easier to get everyone's opinions this way. I have a rough idea in mind; if anyone else has been thinking of something, do let me know and we can work on your designs. This is after all YOUR class tee so it shld be something that you guys like and are happy to wear (in front of people, and not something you will relegate to cleaning the table with).

Also if you have any homework that needs to be done over these two days, do make sure you finish everything. There is NO English homework (ain't I kind :P). But you will have stuff to do when you get back on Wed so please make sure you don't leave your brains at home (or worse, in the bak kwa).

Don't eat too many CNY goodies k. Very heaty, bad for throat. Then all will be conveniently "ill". =.=" Happy ang pao collecting!

thanks guys

I just wanted to say a very big thank-you to all of you for the Friday surprise. It was really touching and it made my birthday this year especially memorable. :) I am glad to have you guys around, even when things get annoying and frustrating. I have never for one moment wished I had a different form class.

Thank you for the cake (I ate some but gave most away in the end; it was too rich for me :S). Thank you for the (ahem) thoughtful presents: the lamp =.=" the violin and the bear, who is sitting on my bed at home. Thank you for the huge card, and the not-so-huge cards that accompanied it. Thank you for bothering even though you didn't have to. It really made my day. :)

Since I have done out the essay in point form for Globalisation,

thought of sharing it with everybody..

it can be found here.

You can download it too, however you may need to sign up.

((:

if you are not comfortable in using point form then listen to Mrs. Gill on memorising the whole passage.

All the best

Class T-Shirt/ Wind Breaker/ hoodie.

Hello Everybody!

Just a few thing to let everyone take note.

1) We have to come out with the design of the shirt or whatever we are creating before 1st Feb in order to be eligble to get an free Asian Tee and they allocate the shirt based on first come first served basis. Meaning if we order late and there is no stock or not enough of the shirt size avaible, we will not receive an Asian Tee.

2) Like Yanwei have mention in the previous post, if we were to make a windbreaker it will be much more expensive and my question to all is that How often do we wear a windbreaker or a hoodie? I mean let's make our Class "shirt" a shirt that we can wear frequently or maybe when we have party can wear together. I know it is kind of boring to always have class tee and we are getting a free Asian Tee already but how often do we wear a windbreaker out for a class gathering or worse to say, a BBQ party?

Thus I urge everyone to take the idea of the Class shirt instead of a windbreaker/hoodie. In this way we do not have to spend additional money to print design on the Asian Tee.

With regards
Nicholas.

Class tee

BAD NEW!!
If wan the average quality windbreaker will cost about $40-60....
Plus the most super lousy windbreaker=good and expensive class tee
so are we still going to buy?

the new class timetable (and other things)

1. I received word that the new timetable takes effect only on Tuesday of next week. Since I am useless at figuring out how to work the staffroom scanner and you are following the old timetable on Monday anyway, I will give you guys the new timetable on Monday during EL.

2. Lihui and Min Er, where are your report books?

3. Did you all use a file last year for EL? I know the second half of the year we didn't seem to use one but what about the first half? If you have one can you bring it on Monday please?

4. Yan Wei, please remember to check up about the class T-shirt/windbreaker printing. If we get it done early you can wear them in school for a longer period of time.

5. Tong Jing and Songtao, you owe me $11 each for the Start Right Workshop thing. (I feel like a loanshark saying that.)

Today is Desmond's birthday: Happy Birthday Desmond!
I am considering buying a birthday cake every month this year so we can celebrate people's birthdays. If I'm feeling wealthy enough I might do it.

P.S. Remember the words I went through today, the names of articles of clothing. They will reappear again soon in some form or other (eg. spelling).

the class motto

(Oh dear. I almost typed "moo-tto".)

I've gone and looked up some interesting mottos you might want to have for our official class motto (since "Why so serious?!" is the unofficial one). Here they are:

1. joie de vivre! (French; it means "the joy of life".)

2. Per aspera ad astra (Latin; it means "through the thorns to the stars", or through difficulties to the stars.)

3. γνώθι σεαυτόν (pronounced "gno-thi sow-ton") (Greek; it means "Know Thyself". Remember the comprehension we did about the girl going to a convent school as a teacher?)

Think about it and we'll decide during SEL tomorrow, which is now known as CE. (I don't know why.) Oh and remember your $4 for the photos ok?

new year resolutions

Happy new year, people. My beloved Xinhui appears to be deluded, as I am neither beautiful nor sexy. I am, however, still your form teacher (dang it!) and I am also still your EL teacher (double dang it! You wanted Ms Lee instead right?).

Anyway, I wanted to point out that I do not want to put a chatbox on this page for a few simple reasons:
1) to prevent spamming, because some people (AHEM) in our class really love spamming cboxes, and I happen to find that the second most annoying thing in the world; and
2) cboxes encourage the use of internet (ie. lazy) English, which is the first most annoying thing in the world (to me, since I'm an EL teacher).

So if you'd like to make noise about any of the posts, please use the comment function for the particular post you're talking about. Yes, yes, lazy to use comment function usually means you end up not commenting, but hey, this is the last time you're going to have the chance to do stuff like this. Post things online in proper English, that is. I mean, when you go off to JC and poly and whatnot, your teachers aren't going to care where you use correct English. And the only people who lose out are you guys. So! Maybe (one of) your resolutions for 2009 should be:

Make an effort to use English the right way, even when it's a pain in my butt.

:D On the way to A1s and A2s, everybody?
