checklist for chalet

Hello my lovelies,

Here are some things you need to know about the chalet from Tues to Thurs.

1. Bring your toothbrush. We will have a bottle of bath stuff and a tube of toothpaste to share, but you have to bring your own toothbrush, or use your finger, or whatever it is you do to your teeth. If you don't brush your teeth, OMG DON'T COME NEAR ME.

2. We may be going to the beach on the second day, so do bring your swim things/extra clothes. Unless you are allergic to seawater or something. In addition, you SHOULD bring sunblock so that you don't get burnt to a crisp. You want to be hero and brave the UV radiation, go ahead, but no whining later that you're so burnt etc etc. I will slap you on your sunburn and make you cry.

3. You are reminded to bring a present for your mortal. If you want to you can also bring one for your angel (depending on how much you like your angel). Present budget is $3 to $10. Try not to be cheapskate, and don't get some rubbish item that no one in their right mind would want (eg. a broken garden gnome who looks like Santa Claus). If you are unsure whether your mortal is coming, you can check with Xinhui who has the master list of attendees.

4. Reminder that if you want snacks or things to nibble on you have to bring your own. Please be responsible and don't leave them half-eaten and lying around. I will erect signposts for the ants to travel to where you are sleeping, so they can bite you on the ass.

5. Whatever you are intending to bring to the chalet, esp if it is expensive/high-tech/cost more than half my salary, no one will be responsible for it except you. The chalet may not always be secure so please do ensure you either have it with you at all times or you have someone keeping an eye on it for you. This includes things like handphones, laptops, PSPs, MP3 players and whatever other crap you want to bring.

6. Please for goodness sake bring a towel. Don't SHARE cos that is plain disgusting. And please bring a BATH towel, not a hand or face towel. Your butt very small meh?

7. If you want to watch DVDs you can bring them along, cos we will be renting a player for the duration of our stay. Please don't bring porn. I will slap you silly with the DVD box, and then throw you out.

8. Please also bring your own cup. There are no cups in the chalet and I don't encourage drinking with your mouth under the tap. Esp if you want to drink Milo on the morning of the second day, you need a cup that can contain hot liquid, eg a mug. =) If you want to share with someone it's up to you. As long as you don't share with me.

9. PLEASE PAY YOUR MONEY IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY. MS STRAATEN IS VERY POOR. SHE WILL SET THE GUARD DOG OF HELL ON YOU IF YOU DON'T PAY. IN ADDITION SHE WILL REDIRECT THE LIZARDS AND COCKROACHES TO YOU, TOGETHER WITH THE ANTS, TO BITE YOU ON THE ASS. Those who have not paid and don't pay on the day will have to sleep outside. And I will pray it rains at night.

=) Any other questions or queries, let me or Xinhui know. Call us if you will be late meeting us at Jurong East tomorrow. Thanks.

Class Chalet

HEY GUYS! NEWS!!!!

The class chaket will be held from Dec 1-3 (Tue-Thur) at the Aloha Changi. We will be meeting in Jurong East (1:45 PM) *correct me if i'm wrong ms straaten*

a plain explanation of what we will be doing for that three days in a (kinda) isolated area...

on the first day, since we coould only check in around 3, we thought of playing amazing race in changi airport, which will start from ard 4 till dinner... which SHLD be around 7/8pm then it will be free time when we go back 'home'.

the next morning, BREAKFAST! we MIGHT be making breakfast for you guys. (depending on the amount of extra money that we will have) and then we will go to the beach to have some beach games so please do not forget your beach wear or some casual wear that is suitable for beach. Then lunch. then around evening, we will start our BBQ. Then maybe some games during the period of time... like twister? You guys can bring along games like that to play if you want. It'll be gladly welcome. People who are coming for only one day, I SERIOUSLY advise to com on the 2nd day. It's more meaningful (:

a few notes to take:

* please bring tibits that you guys want to eat on your own. We WON'T be providing because it always ends up BBQ food not being eaten.
* No alchol will be allowed
* Angels please do not forget to bring your present for your mortal. not too expensive but pelase do not bring those cheap cheap things like pen? The most important thing is still something you could afford and is kinda meaningful/useful to the person. Don't get useless stuff.
* PEOPLE WHO DID NOT BRING/PASS ME THE MONEY AS FOLLOWING; SUMATHI, MUSARRAT, BOON HOCK, DESMOND, TU YONG PLEASE GIVE IT TO MS STRAATEN ON THE 1 DEC. IF NOT, WE WILL SET CEREBUS ON YOU.
* There are a few (last min) people who are going, please confirm your name with me, send an email to simxinhui_93@hotmail.com (or if you have my number just send a message to me, don't forget to leave your name 'cause i just changed my phone but didn't change my number)
* If you like you could bring your self-entertainment like laptop, psp and whatever but make sure you don't lose it. We won't be responsible for it.

That's it for now. For this period of time, please check the blog often as there will be updates about the class chalet. Please pass this message around. Thank You very (the) muchie

chicken, please

You may or may not have heard already, but I have been diagnosed with chickenpox.

(I KNOW! WTF?!)

This means the whole of next week I will not be in school.

You will still have work to do, and I've assigned some people to help me look after it. Please don't take my absence as opportunity to party, tempting though it seems. And yes, I have assigned someone to be on what I privately call A**hole Alert - to notify me if my EL periods get stolen for another subject.

Please cooperate with your friends whom I've assigned duties to. Be good, and if you can't be good, be careful.

See you all soon.

Love
Ms Straaten

Munich

In this task you will view the following:

1) A Wikipedia article on an incident that occurred during the 1972 Olympics in Munich, in what was then West Germany;

2) A video of news footage taken during and after the incident;

3) and clips from a movie by Steven Spielberg about the events of Munich 1972, titled "Munich":

After viewing these three things, take down the following question and answer it in your own time:

How far are things like the Asian Youth Games (AYG) and the Olympics essential to building world peace?

the english homework

As you may have noticed from my SMS this afternoon, I have returned. :) And so the homework appears.

There is a lesson in Asknlearn that you are supposed to complete. It should appear in your portal - I, for some reason, cannot access the lesson. It was created by Mrs Foo and is called something like "Sec 4 Holiday Homework". Please access and do the lesson; I will in the meantime figure out how I'm supposed to mark it. If you have problems accessing/doing any of the components do let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks.

THE CLASS TEE...

Yes, it is me again, not to worry not to add money or anything, it is just the guy send me the final design le ((:

Well and i would like to explain how he roughly charge us((:
WELL basically, I am glad he charge by colour instead of PARTS.
so basically our front we have 2 colours and back 3 ((: and because our back it is our name which is separated and I dun want it to be join or else we will get a shirt that is just "sticky" at the back. (like the prefect camp shirt) I am sure those who have feel it before will know that it is not nice.
Okay next, the shirt itself is called Special Cool Fit (sound so EXTRAVEGENT i know) haha.. it basically means that when we wear it, it is like a polo tee, but the moment we perspire, it will be like a dry fit tee! amazing huh? just like Mrs. Ko talk about MAGIC POT! haha.

Good point bout this shirt: It has RED by the side faded downwards(: (not like the top)
and so we can wear it on NATIONAL DAY (if they allowed RED/ White shirt)

haha. okay MISS PERVY do come back soon!
and yea, just in case you forget, PRESENT! hahahhaahahha

With regards,
Nicholas(:

hasta la vista, babeh

Hello my loves. Before I vanish into the jetstreams and land in Espana there are some things I need you to take note of.

1. Your O Level Exam on Monday: remember the following-
a) Bring your confirmation slip (the A4-size piece of paper with what subjects you're taking and all that info), because that's your entry proof and you need it for all your O-level papers. Plus if you don't have it I am not going to be there to plead with Ms Shamsiah to print it for you again;
b) Bring your IC or EZ-link card, because they need photo identification (the invigilators are from another school, they are not Yuhua teachers who know you);
c) Please bring your thermometers in case they decide they want to take your temperatures before the exam;
d) Sleep well the night before, because hysterically reading Chinese phrases and idioms the night before an exam is not going to improve your Chinese by leaps and bounds.

2. The class chalet booking I am settling with Ai Poh. Wei Jie, please get your Organising Comm organised so that you can settle stuff like who's doing the food, who's bringing games (PSP not counted because those are antisocial and I will break any PSP that I see people playing - yes I will get violent) and other important things.

People who haven't paid for the overnight thing are: Rahul, Ai Poh, Sumathi, Min Er, Jocelyn, Erin, Yu Xin and Eugene. Please pay up ASAP to Minnie. Minnie will pass all the money to Ai Poh.

Another note about this class chalet thing: I am not the one organising it, your class is (albeit collectively). I am not giving consent forms, neither is this a school event; please ensure you convey the correct message to your parents. Also because I am going to be the only adult there, please don't do anything stupid that requires calling of parents, ambulance, police or fire brigade.
Please also don't do anything stupid that requires me slapping you on the face, because I will if necessary.

3. You may have realised by now that I have not given you any holiday homework. (!!!!) This is because (as usual) I was completely tied up with other things. Do not rejoice! The homework will appear when I return from Spain. You will still have 1.5 weeks of holiday to do it. And it's not difficult, so no excuses. People who are going to be away, like Tongjing and Sahil, I will give you extra time to do when school re-opens.

4. Nicholas, can you go ahead and get the class T-shirts done? Collect the money during the supplementary and get some of your classmates to go down to the place and help you carry. If you need to store them somewhere, bring them to school and ask one of the teachers to let you into the staffroom to leave them at my table. Then we can give them out at the chalet. Oh and don't forget to make one for me!!!! :D

Hmm I think that's all I have to say for now. I will get to check my email on the trip so when you read this post, please tag on the board so that I know you've read. Thanks, and all the best for the exam on Monday! Will miss you guys. :)

Love
Ms Straaten

some things

Hi all,

My revision tips for Paper 1 are on my blog. You have the address yes? Do go read up on them. Tomorrow I will post about Tuesday's debates. So far I only have speeches from Joshua's team and Nic's speech. Awaiting the rest!

Oh and by the way, do take care of your physical health over the weekend, and don't lose your thermometers. We will have to take your temperatures twice a day from Monday onwards (school operating procedures in line with Ministry of Health directives).

Rest well and I'll see you all on Monday.

Love
Ms Straaten

Edit: Oh I have from BH's group and from my kitty cat also. Yay! Oh and Xinhui, we'll all be here to push and prod one another ok? And Mrs Ko got your message but I don't know why she didn't reply. I think she was busy sewing? Lol. Not sure.

(suckers)

hais... okay... i'm now currently S.O.S-ing... so, i need you guys to help me..

Class Chalet.

Hello guys, after discussion with MissPervy and some of your fellow classmates, we thought of suggesting a class chalet during the June holidays. This chalet will not only bond the class together, but it will also be a break from all of the constant nagging from our asshole teachers. This should be last time that we could have fun as a class, since most of us would be concentrating on O's once the holidays are over. Thus, i hope that majority of the class are able to make it.

Venue:Downtown East, Coasta Sands Resort.

Date:3rd or 4th week of June holidays

Time:12pm-10pm(Organising Commmittee)5pm-10pm(Others)
-5pm at Pasir Ris MRT.Someone will be there to pick up those who need help with directions.
-I am trying to get more people into the Organising Committee, thus please inform me if you are willing to lend a helping hand.Thanks.

From the Calculations i have made, cost of each person:
$25++ (Without overnight at chalet)
$35++(Overnight at chalet)

I know it may semm to cost a lot, but i hope you guys will be willing to spend this amount of money before we all become nerds.I'll let MissPervy discuss this further with the class.

With Regards,

about the t shirt

hey guys

the DM has sent out an email to teachers saying that the school is no longer going to approve any class t-shirts

and form teachers are supposed to discourage classes from making t-shirts

even if we make the shirt we won't be able to use it for sch functions

so

how?

love, ms straaten

P.S. i am too fed up to be bothered with punctuation and stuff today, sorry

The Class Tee (again2)

I hope to have a pink polo tee regardless of the shades of pink.
The reason is very very simple. Pink is Unique! If you compare to other colours, every class seem to wear that colours especially W/B. And you will recognise your classmates from afar!

SO VOTE FOR PINK!

P.S I don't care if you already decide on a colour! Hmph.

the class tee (again)

Happy Lunar New Year to everybody who celebrates it! May you have lots of pineapple tarts to eat and be healthy enough to come back to school on Wed (which is Cedric's birthday; yay Ced)!

Anyway before everyone conveniently forgets, I started two polls on the class tee. I figure it's easier to get everyone's opinions this way. I have a rough idea in mind; if anyone else has been thinking of something, do let me know and we can work on your designs. This is after all YOUR class tee so it shld be something that you guys like and are happy to wear (in front of people, and not something you will relegate to cleaning the table with).

Also if you have any homework that needs to be done over these two days, do make sure you finish everything. There is NO English homework (ain't I kind :P). But you will have stuff to do when you get back on Wed so please make sure you don't leave your brains at home (or worse, in the bak kwa).

Don't eat too many CNY goodies k. Very heaty, bad for throat. Then all will be conveniently "ill". =.=" Happy ang pao collecting!

Monday, January 19, 2009

thanks guys

I just wanted to say a very big thank-you to all of you for the Friday surprise. It was really touching and it made my birthday this year especially memorable. :) I am glad to have you guys around, even when things get annoying and frustrating. I have never for one moment wished I had a different form class.

Thank you for the cake (I ate some but gave most away in the end; it was too rich for me :S). Thank you for the (ahem) thoughtful presents: the lamp =.=" the violin and the bear, who is sitting on my bed at home. Thank you for the huge card, and the not-so-huge cards that accompanied it. Thank you for bothering even though you didn't have to. It really made my day. :)

Class T-Shirt/ Wind Breaker/ hoodie.

Hello Everybody!

Just a few thing to let everyone take note.

1) We have to come out with the design of the shirt or whatever we are creating before 1st Feb in order to be eligble to get an free Asian Tee and they allocate the shirt based on first come first served basis. Meaning if we order late and there is no stock or not enough of the shirt size avaible, we will not receive an Asian Tee.

2) Like Yanwei have mention in the previous post, if we were to make a windbreaker it will be much more expensive and my question to all is that How often do we wear a windbreaker or a hoodie? I mean let's make our Class "shirt" a shirt that we can wear frequently or maybe when we have party can wear together. I know it is kind of boring to always have class tee and we are getting a free Asian Tee already but how often do we wear a windbreaker out for a class gathering or worse to say, a BBQ party?

Thus I urge everyone to take the idea of the Class shirt instead of a windbreaker/hoodie. In this way we do not have to spend additional money to print design on the Asian Tee.

With regards
Nicholas.

*Suggestion are given based on the terms and conditional made by the company.

Class tee

BAD NEW!!
If wan the average quality windbreaker will cost about $40-60....
Plus the most super lousy windbreaker=good and expensive class tee
so are we still going to buy?

the new class timetable (and other things)

1. I received word that the new timetable takes effect only on Tuesday of next week. Since I am useless at figuring out how to work the staffroom scanner and you are following the old timetable on Monday anyway, I will give you guys the new timetable on Monday during EL.

2. Lihui and Min Er, where are your report books?

3. Did you all use a file last year for EL? I know the second half of the year we didn't seem to use one but what about the first half? If you have one can you bring it on Monday please?

4. Yan Wei, please remember to check up about the class T-shirt/windbreaker printing. If we get it done early you can wear them in school for a longer period of time.

5. Tong Jing and Songtao, you owe me $11 each for the Start Right Workshop thing. (I feel like a loanshark saying that.)

Today is Desmond's birthday: Happy Birthday Desmond!
I am considering buying a birthday cake every month this year so we can celebrate people's birthdays. If I'm feeling wealthy enough I might do it.

P.S. Remember the words I went through today, the names of articles of clothing. They will reappear again soon in some form or other (eg. spelling).

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

the class motto

(Oh dear. I almost typed "moo-tto".)

I've gone and looked up some interesting mottos you might want to have for our official class motto (since "Why so serious?!" is the unofficial one). Here they are:

1. joie de vivre! (French; it means "the joy of life".)

2. Per aspera ad astra (Latin; it means "through the thorns to the stars", or through difficulties to the stars.)

3. γνώθι σεαυτόν (pronounced "gno-thi sow-ton") (Greek; it means "Know Thyself". Remember the comprehension we did about the girl going to a convent school as a teacher?)

Think about it and we'll decide during SEL tomorrow, which is now known as CE. (I don't know why.) Oh and remember your $4 for the photos ok?

new year resolutions

Happy new year, people. My beloved Xinhui appears to be deluded, as I am neither beautiful nor sexy. I am, however, still your form teacher (dang it!) and I am also still your EL teacher (double dang it! You wanted Ms Lee instead right?).

Anyway, I wanted to point out that I do not want to put a chatbox on this page for a few simple reasons:
1) to prevent spamming, because some people (AHEM) in our class really love spamming cboxes, and I happen to find that the second most annoying thing in the world; and
2) cboxes encourage the use of internet (ie. lazy) English, which is the first most annoying thing in the world (to me, since I'm an EL teacher).

So if you'd like to make noise about any of the posts, please use the comment function for the particular post you're talking about. Yes, yes, lazy to use comment function usually means you end up not commenting, but hey, this is the last time you're going to have the chance to do stuff like this. Post things online in proper English, that is. I mean, when you go off to JC and poly and whatnot, your teachers aren't going to care where you use correct English. And the only people who lose out are you guys. So! Maybe (one of) your resolutions for 2009 should be:

Make an effort to use English the right way, even when it's a pain in my butt.

:D On the way to A1s and A2s, everybody?
